Healthcare Construction | Rotherham

Project Large Image 510 x 330

                           1st Small Image 300 x 250   2nd Small Image 300 x 250

The Project

Pacy and Wheatley Healthcare Construction project comprised three single storey extensions with the works phased to allow the centre to remain operational throughout. In addition to the construction of two consulting room extensions, the main extension was a new patient waiting area to accommodate additional services. Extensive internal works and remodelling including a new M&E installation were completed as part of the scheme, with disabled access ramps and external landscaping.

The Challenge

As the site was to remain operational throughout the course of the project it was imperative to set up the site and works to maximise access for the staff and patients. Extensive demolition to allow the new extensions were completed with the utmost care and consideration to staff and patients occupying the centre. Good management of large deliveries was essential as the site was sandwiched between a busy main road and a shared drive of a residential property.

The Solution

A phasing plan was produced following liaison with the client to ensure that areas of works were appropriately segregated from the occupied areas and members of the public. All service shutdowns were with prior arrangement and out of hours to minimise down time and disruptions.

Demolition works were carried out by hand as far as reasonably practical and any particularly heavy tasks, close to the live area, were dealt with out of surgery hours. The works were well contained with hoardings to segregate the potential hazards from the public areas.

A traffic management plan was drawn up at the start of the contract and issued to all contractors & suppliers. This helped manage the potential to disrupt a very busy route for commuters through to Sheffield city centre. We also requested deliveries to be out of peak traffic hours. A good relationship was formed and maintained with the neighbour whose shared drive had to be utilised for access to the rear of the property.

Key Achievements

The successful handover to achieve our clients pre-arranged open evening involved immense flexibility and additional work from all involved. Inclement weather throughout the project coupled with additional works meant that the programme was extremely tight; however we handed over to the client prior to the planned opening day. The project was safely managed despite the tight programme, congested working area and close proximity to the live areas resulting in zero reportable incidents.
